Prof. Isabel Dziobek
What can Science bring to the table for Breathwork (and the other way around)? Breathwork is becoming an increasingly popular tool for personal growth and development. Also in the scientific community, interest in these century-old practices is growing. Questions such as “What are the neurobiological mechanisms behind breathwork?” or “Why is it such a promising tool for trauma therapy?” are starting to be discussed. In this short workshop we will get into the scientific underpinnings of different types of breathwork, discuss the role of science in the breathwork community and give a brief glimpse of current studies in this field. Putting the theory into practice, we will guide you through two breathwork exercises, so you can directly experience the effects. Dr. Isabel Dziobek is a professor for psychology at HU Berlin and head of the Outpatient Clinic for Psychotherapy. Nina Hartter, M.Sc. is a PhD-student investigating the effects of breathwork on people with childhood trauma. Both Isabel and Nina are yoga teachers and breathwork practitioners.
