Scientific Talk Breathwork

Prof. Dr. Isabel Dziobek

Head of Department of Clinical Psychology of Social Interaction and Outpatient Clinic for Psychotherapy at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin

Isabel’s research interests and works lie in the field of social and affective neuroscience. She has been focusing among others on mindfulness, emotion processing, and compassion in healthy individuals and clinical populations involving social dysfunction such as autism and borderline personality disorder. As an experimental psychologist and psychotherapist (CBT) she is interested in both, understanding the mechanisms of (dis)order in social and emotional processing and in the development of treatment options for those with respective problems. The methods that she uses encompass structural and functional MRI, EEG, and heart rate assessments. In recent years Isabel has been giving workshops on yoga and healing festivals and together with colleagues from London and Sri Lanka she has developed retreat concepts to foster mindfulness and compassion. Together with the Mind Foundation she does research on the effects of altered states of consciousness through breathwork.
